Somebody in your league is going to get pick 10 and post about it.
They will use the word "cooked." They will suggest, not entirely as a joke, that the commissioner rigged it. They will spend the next week explaining that they never win from the back half.
Here is the annoying part.
They are right that pick 10 is the worst slot. They are wrong about every single reason why.
Yes, it is last
Pooling every player drafted within two ADP ranks of each pick a slot owns, 2016 through 2025, roughly fifty player-seasons per pick:
Slot 10 owns picks 10, 15, 34, 39, 58 and 63. Those six picks returned 83.8 median PPG combined, 2.14 expected top-12 finishes, and 2.48 expected severe busts.
Worst, worst, and worst.
The best slot, pick 5, returned 91.4 PPG with 2.66 elite seasons and 1.88 busts.
So the entire spread between the best seat in a 12-team draft and the worst seat is 7.6 median PPG across six selections, and about half of one elite season.
Spread over a 17-game season and a nine-man starting lineup, that is a real disadvantage and a completely survivable one. It is roughly the difference between one good waiver claim and one bad one.

Your first-round pick is not the problem
This is the part people get backwards.
The 1.10 returned 16.1 median PPG with a 60% top-12 rate and a 22% severe bust rate.
The 1.01 returned 18.5 PPG with a 63.3% top-12 rate and a 23.3% bust rate.
Your first-round pick busts less often than the first overall pick. You give up about 2.4 points a game and three points of elite rate. That is the price of nine spots, and it is cheap.
Round 1 is flatter than it feels. Median PPG at picks 1 through 12 goes 18.5, 18.8, 18.5, 18.5, 18.3, 18.6, 16.4, 16.6, 16.4, 16.1, 16.1, 16.6. There is one step down, it happens around pick 7, and after that the round is essentially level.
If slot 10 lost its value in Round 1, the numbers would look nothing like that.
The problem is picks 34 and 39
Slot 10's real weakness is the middle of the opening block.
Pick 34 busted 42% of the time. Pick 39 busted 44%. Pick 15 — your second selection — produced a 48% top-12 rate, tied with slot 11's pick 14 for the lowest second selection of any slot.
Compare that to slot 5, whose second pick returned 17.8 PPG and a 64% top-12 rate.
Two things are happening at once.
The first is timing. Your Round 2 pick arrives at 15, three picks after your first. That sounds great. It means you are choosing from a board that eleven other managers have barely touched since your last selection — which is another way of saying the top of Round 2 has already been taken by the four teams behind you at the turn, and you are picking from the leftovers of a tier you just watched get cleared.
The second is the dead zone. Your third and fourth picks land at 34 and 39, squarely in the worst-value stretch of a fantasy draft. Round 3 running backs busted 43.2% of the time. Round 4 running backs busted 51.2%. Slot 10 owns two picks in that window and gets no relief on either side of them.
The five-pick trap
Picks 10 and 15 are five apart. Picks 34 and 39 are five apart. Picks 58 and 63 are five apart.
This is the thing that makes slot 10 feel better than it is. Every turn is a quick double, so you never sit and stew. You are always about to pick again.
And that is exactly the problem, because a fast double tempts you into pairing.
You take a running back at 10. Five picks later there is still a running back you like, and the pairing instinct kicks in — get the position locked, build the strength.
The history says don't.
Of all top-12 running back seasons since 2016, only 34.2% came from players drafted in Round 1. The median top-12 running back cost pick 20.5. Meanwhile Round 3 through Round 5 running backs busted 43.2%, 51.2% and 65.7% of the time.
Running back production is not concentrated at the top of the draft. It is concentrated in a band you cannot buy your way into by doubling down early.
Use the fast turn for two different positions, or for two wide receivers. Round 1 wide receivers busted 8.3% of the time against 24.6% for running backs, at nearly the same top-12 rate. Round 3 wide receivers busted 26.9% against 43.2% for backs.
The receiver market is not safer because receivers are better. It is safer because a receiver who loses his role still catches passes, and a running back who loses his role does nothing at all.

Round 1, pick 10. CeeDee Lamb is a coin flip at 50%, Justin Jefferson (62%) and Ashton Jeanty (58%) are likelier than not, Jonathan Taylor is a 34% shot. James Cook shows at 42% because the board ranks him ahead of his market price.
Round 2, pick 15. Chase Brown (50%), Saquon Barkley (58%), Omarion Hampton (42%), Drake London (66%). Note what that list is: five of the seven most likely players at your second pick are running backs. This is the pairing trap arriving on schedule. London is the pick that breaks the pattern.
Round 3, pick 34. Zay Flowers (56%), Tee Higgins (72%), Tetairoa McMillan (73%), Breece Hall (42%). Three receivers with better than even odds. Take one.
Round 4, pick 39. Tee Higgins (44%), Garrett Wilson (42%), Cam Skattebo (57%), Colston Loveland (71%). The board flags tight end as "cliff now" here — Loveland is the last one before a rank gap of ten or more.
Round 5, pick 58. Joe Burrow (43%), Tyler Warren (45%), Luther Burden (39%), David Montgomery (30%).
Round 6, pick 63. Mike Evans (35%), DJ Moore (31%), Drake Maye (23%).
One genuine consolation: pick 63 sits near the top of Round 6, and the top of Round 6 has the best tail in the late block. Pick 63's 90th-percentile outcome was 19.4 PPG, against 18.0 at pick 68. When the season breaks your way, it breaks a little harder from the back half.
Where I would be careful
The sample is fifty player-seasons per pick across ten years. That is enough to establish that the middle of slot 10's block is weak. It is not enough to declare that pick 34 is specifically cursed and pick 33 is fine.
It is also worth saying plainly that a lot of what separates slot 5 from slot 10 is where the tier breaks happened to fall in those ten seasons. Tiers move. In a year where the elite running back group runs eleven deep instead of six, slot 10 looks completely different.
What holds up across every season is the shape, not the specific pick: the front-middle of the draft has the best combination of talent and turn timing, and the back-middle has the worst.
So take your normal first-round pick. Refuse the pairing instinct at 15. Spend 34 and 39 on receivers.
And do not post the screenshot.
